Annual membership fee: BZD $150
·Payable upon approval of your application
Who Can Join?
To become a BNN member, an organization must satisfy two mandatory requirements. Both must be met before an application can be approved.
Dual Legal Registration — NPO & NGO
An organization must be formally registered as an NGO in Belize. At present, this involves two separate registration steps:
Organizations are first registered as Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs), which now serves as the foundational legal requirement.
Subsequently, the organization must also complete NGO registration under the NGO Act to be formally recognized as an NGO.
In effect, organizations are expected to be registered under both frameworks and to comply with the requirements of both pieces of legislation before they are eligible for BNN membership.
Good Standing with BCCAR
The organization must be in good standing with the relevant regulatory body. This means:
- All annual filings must be up to date.
- Filings must be formally approved by the Belize Companies and Corporate Affairs Registry (BCCAR) as compliant.
- The organization must satisfy all reporting obligations under both the NPO and NGO legislation.
These requirements are in accordance with BNN's Articles of Association.
Who Is Not Yet Eligible
Organizations that are not registered as NGOs under the NGO Act, or that are not in good standing under that Act, are not yet eligible for membership in the Belize Network of NGOs. We encourage ineligible organizations to complete the required registrations and return their filings to good standing before applying.
Interested in Becoming an Affiliate Partner?
Organizations, institutions, networks, and development partners that share BNN's commitment to strengthening civil society and advancing sustainable development in Belize are invited to apply for Affiliate Partnership. Affiliate Partners collaborate with BNN through knowledge sharing, joint initiatives, advocacy, and strategic partnerships while supporting a stronger and more connected civil society sector.
This is specifically for organizations working in research, the policy and legal arena, and more human-rights focused institutions that are not necessarily NPOs or NGOs.
