NGO Senator, Hon. Janelle Chanona, was elected to serve on the Executive Committee of Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) for the 2026–2027 term earlier this year. Senator Chanona will also serve as co-convenor of the Human Rights and Environment Programme.
The seat was previously held for Belize by Speaker of the House, Hon. Valerie Woods. Senator Chanona's election followed the 46th Annual Forum and the 46th Consultative Assembly of Parliamentarians for the Oceans, held in Mexico City.
"We are proud to welcome this extraordinary group of legislators to PGA's leadership," said Mónica Adame, Secretary-General of PGA. "The diversity of this Executive Committee — representing government and opposition parties, all regions of the world, and both chambers of parliament — reflects the breadth of our global parliamentary movement. At a moment when democracy and international cooperation face serious headwinds, we are grateful for the commitment and leadership that each of these legislators brings to our network."
We congratulate Senator Chanona.
